10-22-98 Third CDMA International Conference to Open October 27
An international conference on CDMA (code division multiple access) wireless technology will be held Oct. 27-30 at the Hotel Lotte World in Chamsil, southern Seoul.
The third CDMA International Conference is designed to promote global diffusion of CDMA and stimulate research and development of next-generation wireless technologies.
The annual meeting was launched by the Ministry of Information and Communicationto commemorate Korea's successful commercialization of CDMA for the first time in the world in 1996.
Participants in the annual meeting are some 600 Korean and foreign experts from the academia and industry. They will focus on the evolution of second-generation CDMA systems and development of third-generation CDMA technology.
''The conference will offer a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and information on the present and future of CDMA technology,'' said Lee Hyuk-jae, a researcher of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute who leads the organizing committee.
''Participants will be able to gain an insight on the latest trends and directions of the increasingly competitive future wireless market.''
During the conference, over 100 papers will be presented on diverse technical topics.
The conference consists of a two-day technical session, one-day paper session, post-conference tutorials, technical tour and exhibition.
The technical session will feature key figures from the global telecom industry who will speak on major issues concerning the evolution of CDMA technology.
During the paper session, some 100 papers will be presented on purely technical topics.
The post-conference tutorials will focus on design principles of second-generation CDMA systems and smart antenna technology.
On the closing day, participants will visit Korea Telecom Freetel's cell cites and network management center and Hyundai Electronics Industries' equipment manufacturing plant.
Throughout the conference, an exhibition of CDMA equipment will be held, featuring products from Korean and foreign firms.
The conference is jointly orga-nized by the Korean Institute of Communication Sciences (KICS), Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea (IEEK), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and Association for IMT-2000 Technology Development.
