I'd like to mention that for advanced alcoholics with liver disease (a) any alcohol is deadly and (b) the alcohol consumed has a greater effect (they lose tolerance if you will). For these persons anything that reduces intake would extend life. For them, frankly, if consumption went from 1 to 0 there would be a guaranteed survival advantage.
