If you lived in SA, Iran or Indonesia you'd more than likely be hunted down and killed for making that kind of statement.

Freedom to practice or not to practice religion is a rather new concept, and by all appearances it is what is driving these fanatics to kill. A small percentage kill because it gives them some kind of thrill or makes them feel powerful, but the majority are Muslim and they openly, and freely profess who they are and why they do what they do. If you've missed that you aren't paying attention.

I think there is more to it than that, but the religion of Islam plays a major, major role in these men's lives. So much so that they are willing to do all kinds of heinous acts in the name of Islam.

I think it's clear that by going into Iraq this administration is hoping to instill an important value in the ME; that we are all entitled to believe or not to believe in religion. That every man is inherently free to make choices without fear of retribution. Some people say that is impossible....that the people of the ME are not capable of grasping that and other concepts of democracy. This administration and many of its adherents believe it is not only possible but inevitable.

Eventually we'll understand the psychology (I think they're all nuttier than a fruit cake) behind these acts, and whether it's true or not, they use religion as their motivator, and our only option at this point in time is to meet force with force.
