Reid headlines lefty blog conference in Sin City

By TimChapman

Jan 3 2006

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid will be the keynote speaker at conference organized by far left bloggers in Las Vegas June 8-11:

<<< The YearlyKos convention is scheduled for June 8-11, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to nationally-known political speakers, the convention will feature workshops, seminars and social events designed to bring together the liberal/progressive community that has grown around Daily Kos, the most heavily-trafficked political blog in the world. The site generates an estimated 4-5 million unique visits or more per week.

"Senator Reid's popularity in the netroots, despite being a moderate-to-conservative Democrat, is proof that we aren't about ideology," said Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas. "Rather, we rally around leaders who aren't afraid of their own shadows, aren't afraid of their convictions, and aren't afraid to take the battle to the corrupt neocons, theocons, and corporate cons who are misgoverning our country." >>>

Senator Reid is certainly inclined toward extremes, but his decision to lend whatever authority his office has to the most extreme of the extreme -- the Kos heads -- is one that should frighten any Democrats who have an ounce of sensibility left.

The self-made Democratic implosion marches on...

UPDATE: From Hotline on Call:

Don Stewart, an aide to Sen. John Cornyn says
Reid is "opening himself up to a swarm of criticism by
those who are offended by the vitriol spewed by that
group. It looks an awful lot like an endorsement of their
comments -- and that's an albatross he probably doesn't
want."
UPDATE: Kos reacts:

<<< But of course Republicans want to turn "liberal bloggers" into a dirty word since that's what they're best at. God forbid they run the country effectively, depriving us of material to use against them. But, rather than trying to figure out how to effectively govern, they do what they do best -- they try and tear down the opposition...

...Of course, instead of worrying about Reid speaking to a bunch of activists, perhaps Stewart should be working to repair his boss's crappy standing with his constituents. Cornyn is tied for the third lowest approval ratings of all senators in the country. >>>

Ouch! Apparently Stewart struck a nerve! The best thing about this story is that the self-important kings of internet liberal lunacy are smugly sowing the seeds of their own ideological destruction. By tarring the already tarred Democratic Congressional leadership with their brand of extreme politics, they weaken the very politicians who they hope will advance their tired, idealess agenda. Kos and Co. don't know it, but they are radioactive.

By the time they have alienated every mainstream American it will be too late to change course...the damage will have been done.

Keep it up, we like to watch.
