This reminds me of arguments about Vietnam.

Like, the one that goes "the US only lost the war in Vietnam because the hippies and the commies and the media lied to the American people."

I can say, "well, actually, it kind of upset people when it came out that LBJ and Nixon were lying to the American people," but that makes me a traitor.

In case you ever got involved in one of those, they're no win situations. You're a traitor for even bringing up those facts. My guess is that this is a position held by approximately 20% of the population, if that many -- the younger generation couldn't care less about Vietnam.

I know people who idolize Lincoln and I know people who hate Lincoln, but they can usually agree on the facts. But who was responsible for the firing on Fort Sumpter is another no win argument, in case you didn't know.

I guess we should give it up, no progress is possible.

The truth is too inconvenient, history must be revised.
