Euterpe...

Listening to an exchange on a news program this morning convinces me even more that it is time to take the gloves off and throw stupidity overboard. This exchange was between a demo and a repub and the question was......and just to make it clear, I'm paraphrasing.....how will the death of Zarqawi affect security in Iraq. The repub attempted to answer the question in a perfectly understandable and intelligent way and laid out what he thought was a plausible scenario. On the other hand the democrat immediately went into the standard anti-Bush mantra we're all so painfully familiar with, flatly stating that as far as Iraq goes there can't be peace and stability as long as our troops are under suspicion for murder and torture, and until or unless Bush lays out a plan for Iraq......"there is no plan, no strategy."

And by the way Bush's poll numbers are low

Now, I don't know who this person thinks she is talking to, but imo she either doesn't realize how partisan, irrelevant and ridiculous she is or she is just plain stupid. This condescending and partisan attack is detrimental not only to constructive dialog but to America and the dem party on whole.

First off I hope we can agree that Ann Coulter is perceptive and intelligent......in other words, she is not a stupid person.

If not, click next.

I'd like to give you a little insight into my interpretation of her new book. Not regarding the content because I haven't read it yet, but the very fact that she had the guts to go against "conventional wisdom" and really speak her mind. In my opinion and after listening to her in several interviews, I think what she is doing is revolutionary and challenging. She is trying to break down barriers that have been erected in the name of political correctness. She is trying to have a discussion regarding what she sees happening to our nation.
To eliminate the chafe and get to the wheat. Funny.......in an interview with someone yesterday she complained that liberals don't understand analogies...but that is for another discussion. -gg-

I believe she is as sick and tired as I am of having her ideas and perceptions belittled, denigrated, scoffed at, undervalued but most of all IGNORED. I believe that is the central idea behind her new book.

In my mind, and despite what I've always heard and believed, she's illustrating how speech in American is not particularly free. She is taking that concept (freedom of speech) down to its most basic level...out of the courtroom and into the living room. She has the courage to be hung out. She has the courage to give speeches on campuses (albeit surrounded by body guards.....how sad and telling is it that in America a conservative needs to surround her or himself, because we know she isn't alone, with body guards to give a speech on a college campus) knowing full well that the liberal devotee......you know......the one who absolutely refuses to allow free speech and will inevitably throw food or other things at her, and doesn't that just illustrate her point? I just can't help but respect her courage.

Anyway.......

This concept inspires me and forces me to rethink my understanding of free speech. It forces me to analyze my perception of people who share a few particularly ugly common denominators. And that is that they will denigrate their opponent, besmirch and belittle his ideas, but most of all they will CENSOR him not giving one thought or effort to discussing his ideas. In my, and I think Ann's mind, ideas are important and necessary and deserve respect and a forum not censorship and prohibition.

To put it bluntly, there are just way too many questions that need answering to be wasting time on these predictable idiots. And amazingly she has left the door wide open and has invited all to participate in this great debate. That is what makes her quite patriotic imo.

The message for me is............intelligent people get beyond this childish ploy. Intelligent people will say........take your sophomoric and emotional outbursts and go bother someone else.

Intelligent people will say, I will not engage insincere jerks.

Intelligent people will seek out thinkers, support thinkers and elect thinkers.

I'm on my way out of town, so I can't respond to any posts other than this one today. I'm sorry if this post seems incomplete, but in my world it takes time and energy to convey ideas and thoughts, and I have little of both right now.

;) M
