Deutsche Telekom Anticipates Full Year Loss
BY KRISTY BASSUENER
NOVEMBER 28, 2001

Germany's Deutsche Telekom, owner of VoiceStream Wireless, today reports a
third quarter loss but still anticipates a 15 percent gain in sales for the full year.

DT's quarterly loss reached nearly $554 million, compared with a profit of about
$3.6 billion in the third quarter of 2000. However, sales for the period jumped 25
percent to $11.1 billion, due in part to a boost of roughly $1.3 billion from newly
acquired VoiceStream.

DT attributes much of the quarterly loss and anticipated yearly loss to
acquisitions and the purchase of European 3G mobile licenses. Carriers across
Europe collectively spent about $100 billion on advanced license bids, and the
spending has investors and analysts concerned the carriers may not be able to
make a return on the investment with upcoming 3G services.
