[Point: Standards & Investing]

>> Barry, whats your point? IMHO this is a direct shot at AMTX. ..."Aware has the best ...."

All the press releases say that. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything except for egos. There could be a press release out for the 5th best manufacturer of gizmos and the release would say, "XYZ is a leader ....". Fifth best is a leader isn't it?

>> "... no matter what directions standards take.''

There's been a lot of garbage posted on this recently that I don't buy. The ANSI / ETSI standard is Amati's DMT. ANSI doesn't want confusion or interoperability problems. ANSI is a very conservative group. Despite what anyone says, they're not going to turn around and replace DMT with CAP. Steve Macica, who's intimately aware of Globespan's attempts to get CAP added alongside DMT & their response, has mentioned ANSI/ETSI has no interest in CAP as a second ADSL standard. The standard isn't going anywhere. Maybe you should give this a read one more time:

alcatel.com

>>I sure hope Amati has something lined up big time with Cisco or Bay..

They've got stuff lined up w/ MOT, TI, NEC, HKT, Siemens (coming?). I think the competition's propaganda efforts are getting to people. There are no guarantees in securities and the propaganda people know that ... why else would they be spouting propoganda? Because they'd like to get market share via misinformation & scare tactics. Somehow, they seem to think this little forum is a good way to do that.

If Amati's DMT can actually whip the crap out of any CAP out there, and I understand it can (why else would Globespan not want to do an apples-apples comparison?), Cisco or Bay won't be adopting CAP as their internal "standard", especially when DMT is the ANSI standard. These companies are talking about selling a lot of modems to a lot of people -- they want to be conservative and avoid problems. They're not going to go w/ non-standard stuff. That is exactly why Globespan is pushing ANSI/ETSI so hard. And despite their efforts, ANSI has said no, yet Globespan continues to say stuff about the ad hoc committee approving another standard by the end of this year. Garbage. Scare tactics.

Not sure about you, but I don't plan to make investments in marketing ploys, substandard gizmos & faulty rhetoric from a group that unethically represents themselves, especially if there's a lot of greed involved.

However ... I think a lot of people realize CAP will be out first. Because of that some companies will get products out for the sake of being first to market. Then they'll convert to DMT when ready.
