Dell Working Behind the Scenes At Cannes
Dell Products Help Power Variety's Cannes Dailies at Famous Film Festival
AUSTIN, Texas--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 15, 2002--The eyes of the entertainment world turn to France this week as the famous Cannes Film Festival gets underway.
Dell (Nasdaq:DELL - News) is working backstage to provide the computing power to publish Variety's Cannes Dailies, and to help festival goers stay in touch with home offices via e-mail.
Dell will supply Variety with the computer systems necessary to produce its Cannes Dailies -- a 40-page color publication that reports the news of the festival, from film reviews, to celebrity photos, to news of deals made on-site. Variety moves a major portion of its operations from Los Angeles to France to publish Cannes Dailies from May 15-24. Dell systems power the entire production including workstations for layout and desktops for reporters.
"Our work with Variety is an excellent opportunity to showcase our products and show our support for the entertainment industry. Anyone in the film industry, from scriptwriters to special-effects rendering companies, can make their film visions a reality with the power of standards-based computing," said Michael George, Dell's Chief Marketing Officer.
Charlie Koones, Variety Group Vice President, Publisher said, "Working from a remote location can be problematic without the technology we rely on in our home offices to produce a publication. Dell has provided us the computing 'engine room' we need to conduct business away from our offices and produce a high-quality product, which is the official news of record at the Festival."
Dell will also provide computers to power an e-mail center from which festival attendees can keep in touch with their home offices. The center is located in the Variety Village on the famous Croisette.
Dell supports the entertainment industry at events like Cannes and through work with entertainment companies to provide computing products used in film production. Computers can help filmmakers cut the costs of production because they have the power and easy-to-use applications traditionally only found in editing studios. Celebrating its 55th anniversary, the Cannes Film Festival is widely regarded as the world's most celebrated film festivals and one of its largest annual media events.
