The effective maximum data transfer rate of 100Mbps Ethernet is lower than the effective maximum transfer rate of FDDI. I don't know the exact numbers, but it's something like 40Mbps for Ethernet and 70 to 80 Mbps for FDDI. If someone has more insight, please let us know.
