Was it really "too easy" for competition to erupt overnight with DELL? Perhaps, but for those of us who did well with it, I think that we kept abreast of competitive developments and made a determination as to whether or not they posed a threat. At such time as competition created a threat through commoditization, I got out. Until then, it was a great and predictable run.

I don't think that the competitive pressures that hurt DELL appeared overnight, either. I do not think that anyone has (to-date) posed a serious "overnight" threat to DELL.

I'd keep an eye on it. Don't make the mistake of underestimating DELL. The company makes a ton of money, and management is constantly deploying much capital into other businesses (a la MSFT). Today, it's a dog. Tomorrow is another day...

Regards,

LoF
