Anacomp Releases High-Speed I/O Channel Gateway Adapter for Sun PCI Servers
Compact New Companion to Anacomp's Existing Adapter Provides MVS Mainframe

SAN DIEGO, May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Anacomp(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCO), a world leader in information delivery systems and services, today announced the immediate availability of its new Data/Ware(TM) DW4550 high-speed I/O channel gateway adapter for Sun Microsystems(R), Inc. PCI-based servers.
Anacomp's new DW4550 adapter provides high-speed data communication from MVS(TM) mainframe computers to Sun Ultra(TM) Enterprise servers over an ESCON(R) channel. The new adapter provides the same capabilities as Anacomp's existing DW4500 adapter for Sun Ultra 30 workstations, but with its shorter half-card form factor, the new DW4550 supports the entire Sun Ultra Enterprise line of PCI-based servers. The new adapter is based on a new PCI bus ESCON channel interface board produced by Polaris Communications, Inc., a leading provider of mainframe connectivity products and Anacomp's partner in the development of ESCON connectivity adapters. The board's communication functions are performed by software developed by Anacomp.

The high-performance DW4550 can provide near-real-time data transfer of mainframe data to the Sun server. This capability supports a variety of UNIX applications for mainframe data, including bulk data migration; data analysis; interactive or batch Sun-mainframe TCP/IP sessions; and backup, restoration, and archiving.
