Henry: very briefly-
(this was written in response to your post #14; I've got disagreements [ ex: are you claiming that no non-polypeptide hormones have SH2/SH3 domains?] with #16 but I REALLY gotta go)

I've presented journal clubs on papers by at least 3 of the authors in your listing (Ron Evans, James Darnell, Ihle; including many of the seminal Jak/STAT reports). I did my graduate work in a lab where Ron Evans' work on the glucocorticoid receptor was religion.

Its important to distinguish outside consultants (i.e.$$$) vs. employed scientists whose work appears with Ligand's affiliation. After ~5-10 years of post graduate training, the vast majority of scientists will never approach the salary of an established MD. Ergo, the vast majority of scientists are more than willing to accept a 'consulting' fee. In my experience, it don't mean a thing for the company. Just looks good in the annual report.

Its important that biotech companies not get away with this ritualistic PR/BS. I see will be saying this often in this thread: show us the science.

Rather than this list, provide me/us with a list of the most important publications Ligand itself (i.e. proprietary) has produced that will help me/us understand them.

I gotta go.

Peter
