Israel's Health Ministry Halts Viagra Prescriptions, AP Says

Jerusalem, May 26 (Bloomberg) -- Israel's top health
regulators ordered doctors to halt prescriptions of Viagra after
six deaths among users of the impotence pill were reported in the
U.S. last week, the Associated Press said. Although Viagra
manufacturer Pfizer Inc. has not yet applied for approval from
Israel's health ministry since entering the market a few weeks
ago, the pill has been available by prescription, the health
ministry told the AP. Of the 88 requests for the pill in Israel,
only eight have been filled, the AP reported.

Pfizer urged doctors last week to heed warnings that
patients taking nitroglycerin shouldn't take Viagra, which will
remain on the market while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
investigates the deaths.
