What do you want in a FPD? I've offered up some of my observations based on the technology I've seen this week at the SID conference. And we know how some of the companies are positioned to supply various technologies, but that is less than half of the story. What does the public want to buy? What do you want in your next computer monitor? How much more would you pay for a flat monitor? How much for twice the resolution? How much for twice the size? How much for twice the battery lifetime in a portable? How much for wider viewing angles? What do you want in your next TV? Would you rather have a flat 42" direct view screen, or a 42" projection screen? If head-mounted displays with visual performance comparable to the best desk monitors were available, would you want one? How important is 3-D display? These are questions that will ultimately be answered by the purchasing public. What are your answers? Based on that, what should we invest in now? In my case, I may be investing many of my waking hours over the next several years in an attempt to supply a better display device. Perhaps you can help me make it something that you'd want to buy. -bob mackey
