My point on behaviorist theory is that the two behaviors are different. If you don't like a behavior but it is merely inappropriate (picking ones nose in public for example) ignoring the behavior will allow it to stop. Giving it attention on the other hand may be a signal to the picker that they found your button. Disruptive and or aggressive behavior is different however in that the motive behind the behavior is to effect you. This behavior is likely to escalate until the actor feels they have achieved satisfactory results.

The theory is fairly well established. Social scientists apply it with fair predictability. Soft science is much less subject to control than hard science, so "believing" in it is not a term I use. Still it has its uses.
