Perjuring yourself by denying that you had sex when, in reality, you had would not receive nearly the same punishment that someone else would receive had he perjured himself by denying he had killed someone when, in fact, he had.

Sentencing guidelines for perjury do not distinguish the subject matter of the perjury, and should not. The crime is perjury, not "Perjury in a case where the president lied to the nation" vs. "Perjury in a murder trial". There is no distinction in the law. Judges have a certain descretion, as they do with most crimes.
