Countries simply don't give other countries a vote on how they will act.

Then why bother to go into treaties and alliances?

Until this administration, the US used to modify its behavior to some degree to comply with the needs and concerns of other countries. That behavior exemplifies a certain level of maturity and sophistication particularly when you are the big honcho.

Besides, its been my experience that people who do whatever they want usually don't have many friends. I don't suspect countries are all that different.

The technological and cultural effects aren't even from our government. The only way our government could give other governments a vote is if it greatly restricted the freedom of Americans.

I don't think the author was expecting us to give other countries a vote on our culture or technology......I don't think that was his point. No one wants to cut off the hand that feeds us.

However, a backlash is very possible. A number of countries like India, Aus., Europe etc are working hard to encourage their film industries. Others are promoting their cultural differences. I hope to some degree they are successful.......the Americanization of the world could make for a very boring place.

The military and security issues are something where the best other countries or groups can hope for is that we consider their input. (and after consideration, accept it, partially accept it, negotiate or deny it).

I take it then that you would prefer the US to go it alone.
