Novell Signs Hong Kong Educational Agreement

Novell Signs Hong Kong Educational Agreement 09/04/97 HONG KONG, CHINA, 1997 SEP 4 (NB) -- By Neil Taylor, IT Daily. Novell [NASDAQ:NOVL ] has announced a master license agreement with three of Hong Kong's leading tertiary institutions.

The agreement, signed by Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, ensures that each of the institutions will adopt Novell software as a campus standard.

The terms of the license will give the universities price protection and nodal licensing as well as direct sales and technical support.

"The blanket licensing agreement has been a real boon to us," said Jerry Day, director of the Computing and Telecommunications Services Center at Hong Kong Baptist University, adding that licensing by number of nodes saves much administrative time and money when upgrades or new installations are required. "Installing NetWare has enabled us to expand our network across two sites without any increase in the number of staff."

The Hong Kong agreement marked the latest in a whistle-stop tour of the region for Novell's director of major accounts Asia Pacific Peter Craike, who has signed similar agreements in Singapore and Thailand.
