Neal, so far as I understand it:

(1) It was not the drugs.

(2) DSL works on the computer, the TV, or both -- and uses lightening fast telephone lines for either. Almost as good as a cable. Everything works on it -- voice, video, etc.

(3) A lot of corporations are pursuing it, but Amarti holds the patent on DMT (which allows simultaneous use of the internet and the telephone) and DMT has been named the standard. It works at longer distances than the alternative (CAP) and is faster.

(4) US Robotics, which is trying to own the modem world, is fighting a vigorous battle to make CAP the de facto standard.

(5) DSL needs powerful friends -- like WebTV, which will invade the living room and make Bill Gates' vision come true.

Regards,

M.M.
