Sygate Personal Firewall 2.1... Complex Setup, Good Protection

hi jw

thanks for the nice words about the thread.

in looking back over the security post ( #reply-15422406 ) i notice that in the last portion of the article where it lists the firewalls that have passed steve gibson's test, it references sygate as costing $40...

"Sygate Personal Firewall
www.sygate.com; $40
Version 2.1, built 475 or later"

... but i just read in smartcomputing mag that sygate is free for personal use! and this is confirmed on the sygate site.

so here is the smartcomputing review on sygate....

smartcomputing.com

as well as the firewall overview and download page from the sygate site....

sygate.com

personal thoughts on firewalls....with free, top notch firewalls like tiny personal firewall and zonealarm and sygate, i don't see much of a future for the likes of one-trick ponies like blackice defender. symantec's product, along with macafee's, will probably fare well because the companies offer other tools to go along with the firewall. i have not renewed my expired blackice license for that very reason.

good luck

:)
