OT: My daughter lost her iPod touch over the Christmas holiday

We think she left it on a plane, but after reporting the loss to the airline almost immediately, we never received a response. As soon as I heard that it had been lost, I used the Find My iPhone app to lock it and set it to display a message that included our phone number.

Last week we got a call from halfway across the country. A guy said his friend wanted us to unlock it. He said his friend had bought it on eBay. My wife took that call (I was in the office that day) and advised him to contact eBay to see about getting his money back, and that the right thing for him to do was to send it back to us.

She has been unable to reach him on repeated tries since then (we have his phone # via caller ID).

I advised my wife to call the police and let them take it from here.

Any advice from the community?
