Wendy, I wish I knew if CIBC has it right. A.G. is certainly making major balancing efforts to relieve liquidity problems to the weaker segment of the economy without getting the equity bubble to reinflate too much. A soft landing is certainly a possibility. I think that a major round of investments by corporations next year (associated with equipment and software "roll over" to handle the Y2K problem) could actually provide the required stimulus and balance out some decline in consumer spending.

As for Canada, I think that they may be missing the fact that commodities are a big chunk of the Canadian economy, and the deflationary process is far from over, so Canada should perform somewhat worse than the US.
