Well, so far it looks like Mr. Schaefer's report is on target, my guess is that it is indeed self-fulfilling prophecy, but we can't do too much about it. As I said before, if they (the people pulling the strings around here) have decided that they want a tax-selling window, then I have little doubt we will see one.
My only question is this "Is this just natural market forces and/or trends or is it being guided?" My answer to that, if this plays out that way, is that NO it was not just natural market forces. It will have been intentional and I'd be willing to bet that the shares, that are being sold, are mostly being picked up by those close to the source.
One good thing is this - If the window does indeed last long enough for the crystalization of capital losses, I will have likely had an opportunity to have averaged down right along with them. But, I'm going to need another couple of weeks. So we'll see, unfortunately I am sufficiently cash poor, at the moment, that I can't take advantage of this decline, yet.
