The point is extremely simple. There are a lot of wealthy people. The percentage of them who are top executives at large corporations is very small. The percentage of the working population as a whole that are top execs at large corporations is even smaller. Even if it is asserted that the compensation for the top executives has no connection to the supply and demand for their skills (an idea I would not support, although I would agree that this specific market might be fairly distorted), it would not be very relevant to the original point that "The supply and demand for different types of work is the prime factor in compensation received for that work."
