Then again, George Bush didn't look like he could tie his own shoelaces before 2000, let alone send troops into battle. I would have taken McCain in a heartbeat. As for national security, let's face it, it is such a bureaucratic nightmare that it more or less takes care of itself. What has Bush really done for national security? That question remains to be answered.

Maybe, just maybe, if the Bush administration had continued with the armed drone reconnaissance program that the Clinton administration had put into effect, and tried at length to get the new administration to continue, maybe bin Laden and some of his cronies would have been taken out in early 2000. Not that Clinton was a friend of the armed forces but in hindsight it was a smart move. That is, trying to arm the drones with missiles to remove bin Laden.
