Yes - my friend finally succumbed to his war injuries. There wasn't a spot on his body that didn't have scars. But the worst were the inside ones - the PTSD - that he suffered with the rest of his life - his best friend stepped on a mine next to him and died. He spent 2 years in the hospital recovering from his wounds. One of the best people I've met in my life. And as is common, he never talked about it, never regretted enlisting, was never bitter, and always proud of his service.

Whenever I see a serviceman in public, like at the airport or the mall, wherever, I go out of my way to thank them and let them know how much I appreciate what they're doing. If they're in a restaurant, I pick up the tab.
