In January 1999 Prodigy Communications Corporation announced that Prodigy Classic will operate until October 1999. This retirement is a result of the Prodigy Classic Service's proprietary technology that predates current Internet standards. Due to the limitations of this technology, Prodigy is unable to make the Prodigy Classic Service Y2K (Year 2000) compliant. y2k.prodigy.net
