Thirty two years ago I took a course call "Tom Paine, the American Revolution, and your Freedom." It comes to mind on July Fourth, since I believe that Paine wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence and gave it to Jefferson. He did not want credit. Because he knew, even then, he wasn't well liked by the revolutionary elite. Outside of Jefferson and Washington, who knew what he had done. So here's to the REAL "Father of our Country." I had this daguerreotype on my wall for 30 years.
