Hi Amy,
Good to see you back !

Ref < AMD bugs me lately - I'm concerned they may go out of the mp business ..... If AMD exits the mp business, wouldn't that increase Intel's concerns over FTC? And to think I moved some money into INTC from MS several years ago because of the looming antitrust issues. >

Yes if AMD continues on its present trend it may face bankruptcy. But it will always be bought out. Obviously Intel cannot buy out AMD! But someone like TI or Samsung could always pick up AMD.

I will be surprised if TI has not make an offer for AMD already. AMD has a competitive Flash Technology, which TI needs right now to ward off the looming threat posed by Intel's Manitoba chip ( single chip 2.5G cell phone chip with integrated Flash, Signal Processing and XScale processor) for TI's bread and butter cell phone chip business.

Samsung is also doing well and the AMD product line would make a good complementary fit. And there are several people who see a significant value in the long shot prospect of x86-64. The only question is who will be willing to pay the huge cost of keeping that prospect alive ?

AMD will not vanish but may get acquired and dismembered, unless it improves its financial situation.
