SINCE THE END of 2001 we have been hearing predictions about when the high-tech market is going to improve. At that time the brave were saying mid 2002, but that slipped to late 2002, to first-half 2003, more recently to second-half 2003 and in a few months I am sure we shall be hearing 2004. In the heady days of year 2000, when the stock-market was booming, Sun rose to $64, HP to $68, Microsoft into the $70 (down from the previous year), IBM to $130 and Compaq to $34 but now they are about $3.50, $16.50, $47 and $77 respectively, and with Compaq gone from the picture.
