In some small town in Oregon, there was an innocent muslim-looking kid helping his Mom out at her grocery store, and when they departed, he was attacked (in front of his Mom) and the perpetrators shouted racist comments and broke his nose. Even though the act was racist, the police released the perpetrators on a token $100 bond (can you believe it?). The Oregon police of that particular precinct didn't declare it a racist act even though it was -- meanwhile, compare that incident to how Silicon Valley handles racist attacks - a local white woman kicked a muslim tax driver because he looked muslim and Silicon Valley police correctly put her in jail for her racist act. Night and day.

Startups have the good sense to grow their businesses in what appears to be racially tolerant areas such Silicon Valley...

Get off your high horse. I agree that $100 for breaking a kid's nose is not enough, but you obviously think racism itself is a crime, and I don't agree with that. A lot of people thought William Shockley (one of the three co-inventors of the xtor) was a racist, but Bob Noyce & Gordon Moore both worked for him early in their careers. I highly doubt if those "Silicon Valley" police put that woman in jail for being a racist--you said she kicked the guy and that sounds like a crime to me, whatever the race & gender of the perp & vic.

Indeed there have been a number of anti-Muslim incidents in Silicon Valley since 9/11, of which your example is one, I guess.
