But not many people know the role US played in convincing Kuwait and UAE to wage economic war against Iraq (that was just as devastating to Iraq as bombs). Which was the reason why Saddam actually wanted to invade Kuwait in the first place. The situation was not so unlike the covert war US was fighting against Japan in support of the British before Pearl Harbour...

Who do you think pressured the Kuwaitis and Saudis to loan that money to Saddam? The US was offering Billions in agricultural credits to Iraq during that war as well..

If anything, the US was waging economic warfare against Iran, and rightfully so, given their outright support to terrorism.

Did we trust Saddam? Just about as far as we could throw him..

But did he serve a useful role in keeping the Ayatollahs in Iran otherwise occupied..
