Novell ships GroupWise, Border Manager

NEW YORK, Sept 17 (Reuter) - Novell Inc said on Wednesday
it has begun shipment on a pair of products that extend the
reach of the company's network software into the Internet.
The products, a GroupWise 5.2, a new version of the
company's collaboration product for corporate networks and
intranets and a new product called BorderManager, are Novell's
first major offerings under Chairman and Chief Executive Eric
Schmidt, who ascended to the posts in April.
BorderManager is intended for single-point management and
security of networks at its points of contact with other
computers, such as through access via the Internet or other
methods companies allow employees, customers, suppliers or
others to gain entry.
Novell said the new version of GroupWise includes expanded
E-mail features, including full document management and
automated workflow capabilities along with the personal
calendaring, group scheduling and other features of previous
GroupWise versions.
GroupWise 5.2 also adds client support for both Macintosh
and UNIX along with updated clients for Windows 3.1, Windows 95
and Windows NT.
Novell said pricing and license structures for GroupWise
5.2 are identical to those of GroupWise 5.1, ranging from a
suggested retail price of $718 for a five-user license to
$32,625 for a 250-user license. BorderManager starts at $2,495
for a five network user kit.
