In the short run, these sanctions -- if kept firmly in place -- will hurt the starving North Koreans. With their main export stripped from them, they will sink even further into despair and poverty.

I thought about commenting on that line when I posted the article. Kim Jong il is saying "if you don't give me my way, I will starve my people to death." I have sympathy for the NK people, but our concern should be with the Americans he will kill if we let him go on.

We should cut him off as much as possible. Let the Chinese feed the country if they want, but western NGO's should be allowed to ship them food.
