MSNBC: Backlash Aimed at Federal Gov't Over Ebola 'a Racial Stew'

On Thursday’s “NOW w/Alex Wagner” on MSNBC, host Alex Wagner and her guest Joy Reid, host of MSNBC’s “The Reid Report,” took aim at those criticizing the federal government and in particular President Barack Obama and his administration for their dissatisfaction with the response to the outbreak of Ebola within the borders of the United States. Both tied that backlash to race citing all the components that have drawn criticism involving Ebola.

Partial transcript as follows:

WAGNER: That stuff is incredible. He is their president, Joy. I mean, it's not even thinly veiled racism at this point.

REID: No, and I’m glad you called it a racial stew because it is the perfect storm. You have an African, God forbid, flies into the United States and you have all of these sort of issues of immigration sort of thrown into it. I mean I couldn't believe that Marsha Blackburn brought the border into it because I hate to tell you --

WAGNER: Oh, believe it, Joy.

REID: The planes don't come over with the Guatemalan children. They fly into the airport. And so you have that, and of course somehow the Obama administration should have in the plane and picked out all of the African nationals to make sure they couldn't get? You know what? The Obama administration had nothing to do with him coming here. He came here to visit his family and his fiancée.
