I think the research is great. What I'm objecting to is the unnecessary terrorization of the population. I think that the characterization of terrorizing the population is way over the top. I see no indication that the general population feels terrorized. There are some people and companies that are buying Tamiflu ... BFD. The latest Harper's has an article that cuts to this point. In 1940-41, when the Germans killed 40,000 Londoners by bomb, the city never shut down. But the recent bombing that killed 56 shut the city down for a day, and two weeks later an attempted bombing that killed no one also shut it down. And the estimates at the time were that there were 150,000 Nazi sympathizers living in Britain. We would have to come to some agreement as to what defines "shut down". When the London air raid sirens went off, the British went into air raid shelters, they didn't ignore them. Shutting down London for either of the bombing events is gross exaggeration. And I'm having some difficulty seeing the relationship to the bird flu on that one anyway unless you're saying that some city or cities have shut down over bird flu scares.
