If it is just a wall and it is not heavily patrolled then it won't be much use. I was under the understanding that it was more then a simple wall or that eventually it would be more.

But if it's just a wall it can be moved or broken down later if need be.

You seem to ignore the kind of man Sharon is.

Not at all. The fact that Sharon probably has an ulterior motive doesn't mean that protection of Israeli's is not a major motive.

The main thing that kept this from happening before is not fear that the Palestinians would take it as a land grab but rather the thought that by walling off part of the West Bank that Israel would be conceding the rest of the west bank. In recent years that consideration has become more important with even the conservatives recognizing that Israel will not annex all of the West Bank so there has been less reason not be build a wall and with increased terrorism there has been more reason to build the wall.
