I think that the extremely bureaucratic Mr. Monti didn't like this: Mr. Welch also reiterates one of his favorite themes, dating to his earliest days as head of GE, in a section entitled "Annihilating Bureaucracy." "We cultivate the hatred of bureaucracy in our company and never for a moment hesitate to use that awful word, 'hate,' " he writes. "Bureaucrats must be ridiculed and removed." He further notes that as GE increasingly incorporates the Internet into its operations, "bureaucracies will be seen by all for what they are: slow, self-absorbed, customer-insensitive -- even silly."
