regarding my suggestion/comment to you yesterday...
"do you turn off (uncheck) the "check for file system errors' option, under 'advanced options' (button) on the 'ready to create image file' page? i always create the image with that option off"
and your reply/question...
"I do not recall what I have checked or unchecked in the options area. It seems if you were to turn off that option the risk of a bad copy would increase, no?"
couple things i'd like to say. the only thing i make sure i do on this thread is pass along items that either work for me or that i think may work for someone else. if i have never tried the process, i always do my best to make that clear. and i will never suggest that someone do something that would increase risk in any way or make anything 'bad'. just like i wouldn't propose that you or anyone else do something that i would not do. i strive to make myself clear and to indicate whenever possible what the degree of personal experience with the suggestion might be.... for example, in the above, i state, "i always create the image with that option off". to my thinking, this should be an indicator to you that i am passing along a valid suggestion, as opposed to one in which the "the risk of a bad copy would increase". see how that works?
in the above case, from having read the manual, i know that this step will save time. you were having a problem with incomplete images. my thinking was that if you did not have the above-mentioned error checking disabled, then you were spending an awful lot of time having drive image software check something that other windows programs already check. to my thinking, this could possibly increase the chances for you getting a bad image.
the drive image3.0 manual says, "If you have already used a disk utility program such as ScanDisk to check your hard disk for errors, it is not necessary to have Drive Image check for file system errors. Clearing 'Check for File System Errors' saves time in copying the partitions."
additionally, your reply, "I do not recall what I have checked or unchecked in the options area" is an answer that doesn't help me in my efforts to make suggestions. what that amounts to is me having taken some time to try to help, but nothing solid is provided in return. so maybe i'm way barking up the wrong tree here, or maybe i've offered something valid, but "I do not recall" pretty much leaves me empty-handed.
now maybe this all sounds like i'm making a big deal out of something insignificant, but i ask that you please bear with me, as i feel that these basic premises are for the good of the entire thread and its endeavors to help folks.
as for your drive image copy, if you got one to work and you did something different, i would like to hear what the adjustment was. sometimes the positive result seems to have occurred without rhyme or reason. but if you changed nothing and you got a good result, then i have to think the prob will return.
you strike me as a fellow who likes to experiment in order to fix things, so you might want to consider the validity of matching your settings with those of someone who is cranking out good images. doing so would not guarantee success for you, but it would at the very least eliminate one set of circumstances in the quest to isolate the problem.
i hope that this is taken in the spirit in which it was written, which is for the betterment of all posters here with computer problems.
:)
