"In Reagan's time renewables were more than an order of magnitude more expensive than fossil fuels." Photovoltaics were immature, but we could have built windmills THEN just like we have NOW. We could have pursued energy efficiency as a policy, which was the main thing Carter was pushing, that Reagan round-filed. If we HAD, we might have gotten off the oil teat by now. I didn't like Carter, didn't vote for him, but on energy, he was prescient and RIGHT.
