Ted, I don't think most Iraqis see democracy as key. I think you are imposing your values on them. I think what was important to them is getting rid of Saddam and making money in that order.

I thought that was my point, or at least part of it. Main thing is that Iraqis just want to prosper. Entering the modern world is the key to prosperity. Democracy is seen as a vital characteristic of the modern world, so that's why they at least pay lip service to it.

Besides, when did I say that Iraq needs an American-style democracy imposed on them? Let them choose what they want. Or if they can't decide, institute a provisional representative government and let them work it out from there.
