Blaine ~ RE: Your Fundamentals List

Some guidelines I have found useful: Look at the fundamentals such as consistency of recent earnings growth and current prospects. And check the balance sheet in the annual report. Have they been getting stronger of weaker?

A. Avoid companies whose ratios of long-term debt to shareholders' equity have been increasing, without a good explanation for the increase.

B. Don't buy the stock if cash on hand is declining, unless you know why.

C. Avoid the stock if the cash flow statement tells you cash flow has been declining.

Self-evident and oversimplified points? Perhaps, but useful as a basic screen for those of us who lack formal training in these evaluations. Best regards, Rick C.
