If I correctly understand the discussion in the G&K folder about that, the primary issue is that the optical networks require that information delivered on the photon highway must ultimately be converted back to electrons. Therefore, the so-called unstaked tech lead is clearly staked out by Cisco as the Gorilla of networks. If we understand this correctly, the evolving nature of the networking sector is a classic example of why a Gorilla has such a huge advantage over all the other competitors.
