From Apple's performance, it's clear (to me) that the premium handset market is alive and well.
Is your basis for saying this that they sold millions on their first few days? After all, it's way to early to conclude how sales will go for the quarter, let alone the year. Also, even if they sell more than ever before, that's not proof they wouldn't have been more profitable at a higher or lower price point. Finally, Apple's customers aren't identical to Samsung's. There's far less loyalty with manufacturers of Android phones, as it's quite easy to jump to another one and still get a similar experience. I'm a case in point. I loved my S5... incredible phone (waterproof and didn't bend!), but when I saw I could get another Android phone that I liked just as much (on balance) for hundreds less, any sense of loyalty went out the window. And I'll be the same way going forward... I'll jump to the next best thing when I spot it.
