Hey John, this is a bogus question. The cost issue is silly, it's insignificant in the billion here, billion there world of the federal government. How many billions went down the tubes in the S&L fiasco?
Lawrence Walsh was investigating fairly serious governmental matters. Ken Starr spent about as much money and time investigating what? A tiny, insignificant fraction of the S&L fiasco plus a bunch of Arkansas stuff that had nothing to do with Clinton as President, a few actions involving Clinton as President (filegate, travelgate) that Starr admits he couldn't come up with anything on, and BJgate. BJgate, in turn, wouldn't amount to anything if it weren't for a politically motivated civil suit, again having nothing to do with Clinton as President, which is now mute.
I never said anybody should have been impeached over Iran-contra. The Reaganauts were embarrassed enough over the whole thing, it wasn't clear what Reagan knew one way or the other, and the Reagan inner circle was annoyed enough with Ollie North after it was over to sandbag Ollie North's bid for the Senate. But Iran-contra involved serious affairs of state. If it didn't merit anything close to impeachment, how in the world does BJgate rate? |
