Q, the free-open-iron (like that one ?) initiative is a good thing and will get more MSFT desktops into homes that previously could not afford a PC or didn't have enough of a use to justify spending $1000+. For the most part the people that will take advantage of these offers represent a un-tapped market segment of people who just want to surf and email and type the odd document. As Mr. Dell was correct to say there will always be a demand for more powerful open desktops/servers for home & business use and hence the DELL's, CPQ's, GTW's of the world will continue to hum along especially as x86 open-iron goes n-way. The free-open-iron initiative may in the long run drive sales of higher end systems as this un-tapped market eventually begins to explore and want more that just a baseline free-bee box. In effect AOL and friends are creating future DELL/CPQ/GTW and MSFT customers by getting them hooked on PC's.

Cheers
James
