I really didn't believe that you could be so broadly dismissive of so many people, thanks for confirming that.

We are likely close in age. I had a couple of friends back then who were COs for religious reasons, I respected their moral conviction and would support their right to it to the greatest extreme if need be.

I knew myself well enough then to know that pacifism wasn't me, my background was quite different in this regard. I believe that sometimes something must be done to resist evil and I would be one to do it - "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing". I have taken up arms when trouble came looking for me and would do it again.

That said, crossing the line into terrible action is not something I see doing for the convenience of businessmen, politicians, and self appointed holy men. I am not religious in any sense at all, although the nature of belief and man's knowledge of himself is a subject I find of continuing interest.

I'm old now and not so healthy as I once was. I have so many friends and acquaintances and now their children who serve or have served in the military, what I regard as the abuse of their willingness to take risks and sacrifice if need be gets me pretty riled up pretty quickly. Don't get me started on the Iraq deception or the use of torture, I have gone on too long already.

Take care and keep the righteous faith by keeping the faith righteous. Eschewing war is a great step in that direction.
