I looked through the list of vendors with ported products (<70) and wonder where or how you came up with >4000 products. I couldn't find such strong numbers. While it is clear that each of the vendors with ported products can have more than 1 such product, it is not the case that they average >50 products each.

My guess is that the 4K number is the number of apps which run unported.

I'm still interested, but not quite as optimistic as before. For Alpha to succeed it needs ported apps, and lots of them. On the workstation I'm hoping Microsoft sees a strong Alpha to be in their best interest and helps. On the server we need products like IIS and Netscape's server, databases like Oracle and Sybase, and other top server apps.
