Google Dragged into Celebrity Nude Photo Fracas

Google Inc. is being dragged into the celebrity photo scandal that has plagued Apple Inc.AAPL +0.72%

A lawyer representing more than a dozen female Hollywood stars, models and athletes who had their
Apple accounts hacked and nude images nabbed and posted online threatened Google with a lawsuit
seeking $100 million or more in damages.

The attorney, Martin Singer, wrote in a letter to Google that photos and videos belonging to the celebrities were
posted on its websites including YouTube, Blogger, and other Google sites, computer servers and systems.

Since the photos and videos first started appearing online during Labor Day weekend in late August, Singer’s
firm Lavely & Singer has been sending notices to website operators and hosting services, including Google,
asking for the images to be removed.

Google has not taken down the images quickly enough, violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Singer
wrote. The law requires internet service providers and web hosting firms act “expeditiously” to remove images
that infringe on copyrights.
